About the car: Skoda Octavia III (5E)
The Skoda Octavia III, known internally as Typ 5E, is the generation built from 2012 to 2019 for Europe, on the Volkswagen Group MQB platform. The facelift at the start of 2017 brought the split front headlights. For the liftback, Combi and 4x4, Skoda gives the same maximum roof load, 75 kg.
Without roof rails on the roof, the Octavia III needs a kit that attaches directly to the body, with vehicle-specific fittings. That is why the bars are chosen strictly by model, generation and body type: the Tema kit in this fitting is for the Octavia III (5E), the version Menabo calls '4-door'.
What we fitted on this Octavia
The Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars for the Skoda Octavia III (5E) come in a complete kit: two aluminium bars, four feet, four fitting kits for the Octavia III, four locks with keys and an Allen key. The included locks mean the bars stay locked to the car when you leave it parked.
The bars have an oval profile 48 mm wide and 30 mm high, a 20 mm T-track on top for accessories with T-track fitting, and are TÜV and ISO approved. You can later fit bike racks, roof boxes or ski racks on them, with T-track or U-bolt fitting.

Useful details
- The 50 kg maximum load of the Menabo Tema bars includes the accessory: a 3.5 kg bike rack, for example, leaves 46.5 kg for the rest of the load.
- Skoda gives 75 kg as the maximum roof load of the Octavia III, above the limit of the bars, so go by the 50 kg.
- The set weighs 5.2 kg, and each bar is 1,300 mm long.
- After the first kilometres it is worth checking that the fittings are tight, because the bars take the full weight of the accessories and the force of the air at speed.
- The instructions are not published as a PDF on the site, but the fitting manual is included in the box.
- Menabo recommends not exceeding 130 km/h with the roof bars fitted.
