On a Skoda Rapid of the 2012-2019 generation we fitted a set of K39 roof bars and, on top of them, the 400 L Menabo Marathon Dark 400 roof box. Everything was done in our shop at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Skoda Rapid (2012-2019)
The Skoda Rapid of 2012 was built for Europe in the Czech Republic between 2012 and 2019, on the Volkswagen Group A05+ (PQ25) platform. In 2017 it received a facelift with a revised front and new headlights, and from 2019, in Western and Central Europe, it was replaced by the Skoda Scala. The generation had two body styles, the 5-door liftback (NH3) and the Rapid Spaceback hatchback (NH1), and for both the Skoda manual gives the same maximum roof load: 75 kg, including the roof bar system.
The Rapid has no roof rails on the roof, so the roof bars fix to the body. For the roof bar system the manual shows fixing points on both sides of the car, one at the front (A) and one at the rear (B). For a roof box the roof limit matters a lot: the weight of the roof box, the luggage and the roof bars adds up within the 75 kg, and if the roof bars have a lower capacity, their limit applies.
What we fitted on this Skoda Rapid
The base of the fitting is a set of K39 roof bars fixed to the body. On the product sheet of the Marathon roof box, K39 roof bars are on the compatibility list, both the K1 in steel and aluminium and the Lion and King models, and the roof box needs no adapter.
On the bars we fitted the the Menabo Marathon Dark 400 roof box, in the matt black version. It holds 400 L, is made of ABS plastic, weighs 13.2 kg and carries a maximum of 50 kg of luggage. It opens on the right side, has a lock and comes with two fittings in the package: 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T-track. An 80 mm U-bolt fitting is available as an option for thicker bars.

Technical details and what to watch for
- Volume and weight: Menabo Marathon Dark 400 holds 400 L, weighs 13.2 kg and carries a maximum of 50 kg.
- Roof load calculation: the 13.2 kg roof box plus 50 kg of luggage makes 63.2 kg on the roof bars. On the Skoda Rapid the roof limit is 75 kg including the roof bars, so the weight of the roof bars is added to the 63.2 kg, and the capacity of the roof bars must cover at least the full roof box.
- Fitting: 60 mm U-bolt fitting and 20 mm T-track fitting included, 80 mm U-bolt fitting optional.
- Opening: on the right side, with a lock.
