About the car: Skoda Rapid liftback (first generation, 2012-2019)
The 2012 Rapid is a 5-door liftback built in the Czech Republic for the European market until 2019, on the Volkswagen Group A05+ (PQ25) platform. Wikipedia gives it the code NH3, but roof bar makers list it as Skoda Rapid (NH1), 4-door, 2012+ model, which is why you find it that way in the kit title. In 2017 it received a facelift with a new front and headlights, and from 2019 it was followed by the Skoda Scala in Western and Central Europe.
As the roof has no roof rails, the bars attach to the body, at points A and B that the Skoda manual marks on both sides of the car. The permitted roof load is 75 kg including the roof bars, but if the bars have a lower capacity, that becomes the limit. Here the limit is 50 kg, the capacity of the Omega Steel bars.
What we fitted on this Rapid
Menabo Omega Steel for the Skoda Rapid is part of the economy Omega range of steel bars. The bars are 1,120 mm long, 22 mm high and 32 mm wide, and the whole set weighs 5 kg. The box contains 2 steel bars with a rectangular profile, 4 feet, 4 fitting kits for the Rapid and an Allen key, the only tool you need.
The bars are TÜV and ISO approved, and the lock can be added as an option (item 000084800000). On top they have no 20 mm T-track, so accessories attach with the U-bolt system around the outside of the bar. You can later fit bike racks, a roof box, ski and snowboard racks or a kayak and canoe carrier on them.

Practical details
- Working capacity: 50 kg on the bars. With a roof box, the weight of the box plus the luggage in it must not exceed 50 kg.
- The 75 kg roof limit in the Skoda Rapid manual includes the 5 kg of the bars; the Omega Steel bars remain the limit that applies, however.
- The rectangular profile without a T-track needs accessories with U-bolt fitting; check this before you buy a box or a ski rack.
- The bar profile affects noise at speed, and Menabo recommends 130 km/h at most with the bars fitted; details in our guide to roof bar whistling.
- With accessories on the roof, the overall height of the car increases, so watch out for underground car parks and automatic car washes.

Can I put a roof box on the Menabo Omega Steel bars on the Skoda Rapid?
Yes, the Menabo Omega Steel bars on the Skoda Rapid accept roof boxes, provided they attach with the U-bolt system, because the bars have no T-track. The weight of the box plus the load must not exceed 50 kg, the capacity of the bars.
Why can the Menabo Omega Steel roof bars whistle on the Skoda Rapid?
Any roof bar, including Menabo Omega Steel on the Skoda Rapid, changes the car's aerodynamics, and the bar profile and speed affect the noise.
