About the car: Skoda Rapid Spaceback (NH1, 2013-2019)
The Skoda Rapid Spaceback, code NH1, debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013 as the 5-door hatchback version of the Rapid. It keeps the 2.6 m wheelbase of the liftback but is 180 mm shorter, and uses the same Volkswagen Group A05+ (PQ25) platform. The 2017 facelift brought a new front end and new headlights, and from 2019 its successor in Western and Central Europe is the Skoda Scala.
For roof bars it matters that the Spaceback has a normal roof without roof rails, with a glass panoramic roof only as an option. So the bars clamp onto the car body, and the Skoda manual shows fixing points A and B on both sides of the car. The manual also limits the roof load to 75 kg, including the bars, without exceeding the axle loads and the permitted total weight.
What we fitted on this Rapid Spaceback
We fitted the the Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars for the Skoda Rapid (NH1) Spaceback. The difference from the steel version is the 20 mm T-track on top of the bar: accessories with a T-track fitting slot straight into the channel, and those with a U-bolt fitting can still be fixed around the outside of the bar.
The set contains 2 aluminium bars of 1,300 mm, 4 feet, 4 dedicated fitting kits for the Rapid Spaceback, 4 anti-theft locks with keys and the Allen key for fitting. The profile is oval, 30 x 48 mm, the metal components have a rubberised anti-corrosion coating, and the set weighs 5.2 kg and is TÜV and ISO approved.
Technical details and what to watch for
- Bar: aluminium, 1,300 mm long, 30 mm high, 48 mm wide, 20 mm T-track.
- Weight and capacity: the set weighs 5.2 kg and carries a maximum of 50 kg.
- How much you can load: the 50 kg limit of the bars is lower than the 75 kg of the roof, so the accessory plus its load must not exceed 50 kg. The weight of the accessory, from its data sheet, is deducted from the 50 kg first.
- Fixing accessories: 20 mm T-track fitting in the channel or U-bolt fitting around the outside of the bar.
- Instructions: the instruction manual is included in the pack.
- On the road: Menabo recommends a maximum of 130 km/h with the roof bars fitted.
