We fitted a set of Menabo Tiger Black roof bars and a Modula EVO 400 Black roof box on a SsangYong Tivoli at the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom in Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: SsangYong Tivoli first generation

The SsangYong Tivoli is a 5-door subcompact SUV launched in South Korea in January 2015. It has a single generation, with the project code X100, and production has continued from 2015 to the present. The first facelift came in 2019, with new LED headlights and new projector lamps.

The Tivoli XLV is the lengthened version, 245 mm longer behind the rear wheels, so check exactly which model you have before choosing the roof bars and the roof box. For the Modula roof box the fitting order is simple: roof bars first, then the roof box on top of them.

What we fitted on this SsangYong Tivoli

The bars are Menabo Tiger Black roof bars for SsangYong Tivoli 2015+: 2 aluminium roof bars, 1,200 mm long, with 4 pre-assembled fixings and the Allen key from the package. The 20 mm T-track for the T-bolt fitting runs the full length of the bar. The instruction manual is included in the box.

The box is the Modula EVO 400 Black roof box, 165 x 90 x 41 cm, made of glossy black ABS, with a volume of 400 L, opening on both sides and a lock. It fixes with the Quick Fix claw system, directly on the roof bars. The roof box is TÜV certified and City Crash tested.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Tiger Black roof bars carry 75 kg in total, and the weight of the roof box is subtracted from this value. After weighing the roof box and the luggage, check how much is left, because not all of the 75 kg remains for luggage.
• The roof box has a volume of 400 L and outer dimensions of 165 x 90 x 41 cm. Before car parks with barriers or garages, take into account the total height of the car with the roof box fitted.
• The roof box opens on both sides, so you can load luggage from either side of the car.
• Tiger Black roof bars have no lock, so if the car is left unattended it is worth taking extra measures to protect the roof bars.
