Suzuki Vitara LY (2015+) with Menabo Lince Silver roof bars and a Menabo Mania 460 roof box

For a Suzuki Vitara LY we fitted Menabo Lince Silver roof bars and the Menabo Mania 460 White roof box, 460 litres. The fitting took place in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Suzuki Vitara LY (2015-present)

The fourth-generation Suzuki Vitara, code LY, has been built since March 2015 and continues today. It is a 5-door SUV on the Global C platform, assembled by Magyar Suzuki at Esztergom, Hungary. The model has had two facelifts, one shown in Paris in 2018 and another in April 2024, and since March 2020 European versions have had 48V mild hybrid with the 1.4-litre K14D Boosterjet engine.

When you put a 460-litre box on an SUV like the Vitara, the figure that decides how much you take with you is the roof limit. On the Vitara LY with roof rails, the Suzuki manual allows 75 kg (bars, box and load together), compared with only 50 kg on the version with anchor points. The Lince bars are made for integrated roof rails, so the 75 kg limit applies.

What we fitted on this Suzuki Vitara

The first step was the Menabo Lince Silver roof bars for the Suzuki Vitara 2015+. They are made of aluminium, with an 80 mm aerodynamic section and a wing-shaped profile, are 1,200 mm long and have a 20 mm T-track along the whole length. They attach to the roof rails with 4 feet, have 4 locks with keys, are fitted only with the Allen key in the package and are TÜV and ISO/PAS 11154:2006 approved.

On the bars we fitted the Menabo Mania 460 ABS White roof box, 460 litres. The box is made of gloss white ABS, has a lock, opens on one side and has a quick fitting system that needs no special tools. The package includes 60 mm U-bolts and 20 mm T-bolts, and compatibility with Menabo Lince bars is stated on the product page.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Menabo Mania 460 White box: 460 litres, weight 20.2 kg, maximum load 75 kg.
• Calculation on the Vitara LY: 75 kg roof limit minus the 20.2 kg box gives 54.8 kg, from which the weight of the Lince bars is also deducted. The rest is how much you can load in the box.
• The Lince bars are rated for 90 kg, but on the Vitara the car's limit applies, 75 kg.
• The box adds about 36 cm above the bars. Check the height of the car before garages, underground car parks or car washes.
• The instruction manual for the Lince bars is included in the package, and you will find the fitting instructions for the Mania 460 box below, as a PDF.
• Fittings included with the box: 60 mm U-bolts and 20 mm T-bolts; 80 mm U-bolts are optional (code 000065000000).
