Toyota C-HR 2016-2023 (AX10/AX50): Menabo Tema roof bars and Menabo Diamond 450 roof box

We fitted a first-generation Toyota C-HR with roof bars Menabo Tema Aluminium and with the roof box Menabo Diamond 450 Black, for trips with more luggage. The fitting was done in the SuportBicicleta.ro shop at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Toyota C-HR first generation (AX10/AX50, 2016-2023)

The first-generation Toyota C-HR, with the codes AX10 and AX50, went into production in November 2016 in Japan and Turkey, and stayed on the line until September 2023. The production version was shown in Geneva in March 2016, and the facelift for Europe followed in October 2019. Under the 5-door SUV body sits the TNGA GA-C platform.

The coupe-style design has the rear door handles hidden in the pillars, and the roof has no roof rails. So a roof box cannot be fitted directly: it needs roof bars that clamp onto the door frames. The Menabo Tema kit for the C-HR 5-door 2016+ clamps the bars onto the door frames and turns them into a stable base for the box.

What we fitted on this C-HR

The Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars for the Toyota C-HR, 5-door, 2016+ model have an oval profile, are 1,300 mm long and have a 30 x 48 mm section. All metal parts are finished with a rubberised anti-corrosion coating, and the set comes with 4 locks and keys. Fitting needs only the Allen key from the pack.

The Menabo Diamond 450 Black holds 450 litres and carries up to 75 kg. It is made of glossy black ABS plastic, weighs 18 kg and attaches to the roof bars with the 20 mm T-bolt Quick Fix fitting, included. It has an integrated anti-theft lock, opens on the right-hand side and has passed the TÜV and City Crash tests. On the product sheet you will also find the fitting instructions as a PDF.

Useful details

Real load limit: 50 kg (the capacity of the Tema roof bars) minus 18 kg (the empty Diamond box) = at most 32 kg of luggage in the box.
The 75 kg capacity of the Diamond box only counts on roof bars that carry more; on this C-HR it is the roof bars and the roof load in the car's manual that decide.

Before your first trip, check the total height of the car with the box fitted, especially if you park underground.
Menabo recommends a maximum of 130 km/h with the roof bars fitted.
