Toyota C-HR I (AX10/AX50): Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars and Menabo Diamond 450 roof box

A first-generation Toyota C-HR (AX10/AX50) left our shop with roof bars Menabo Tema Aluminium and with the roof box Menabo Diamond 450 Black. The fitting was done in the SuportBicicleta.ro shop, located at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Toyota C-HR generation 1 (AX10/AX50)

The first-generation C-HR was built between November 2016 and September 2023, under the codes AX10 and AX50, and uses the TNGA GA-C platform. It is a 5-door SUV, and Toyota went for a profile close to a coupe, with the rear door handles moved into the rear pillars. The generation received a facelift presented in Europe in October 2019.

The roof of this model has no roof rails, so the first step for a roof box is a set of roof bars that fits onto the body. The Menabo kit for the C-HR 5-door 2016+ fixes the feet of the roof bars on the door frames, and only then can the box be placed on the bars. Without roof bars, no roof box can be fitted on this C-HR.

What we fitted on this Toyota C-HR

The bars are Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars for the Toyota C-HR, 5-door, 2016+ model: oval, aerodynamic profile, 1,300 mm long, 30 mm high, 48 mm wide, 20 mm track for T-bolt fittings and the option of a U-bolt fitting around the outside. The set has 4 fittings for the C-HR, 4 feet, locks with keys and an Allen key, plus TÜV and ISO testing.

On them we put the Menabo Diamond 450 Black roof box, a glossy black ABS plastic box with a volume of 450 litres and a maximum load of 75 kg. It attaches in the track of the bars with the 20 mm T-bolt Quick Fix fitting included, has an integrated anti-theft lock and opens on one side, the right. The Diamond is TÜV and City Crash tested, and on its compatibility sheet the Menabo Tema Aluminium roof bars are listed as Yes, without an adapter.

Useful details

The calculation that matters: the Menabo Tema roof bars carry 50 kg, the empty Diamond box weighs 18 kg, so you put at most 32 kg in the box, even though the box alone would accept 75 kg.
Also respect the roof load in the Toyota C-HR manual; the product sheet of the roof bars notes that the limit can differ depending on the car.
The Menabo Diamond box has fitting instructions and specifications as PDFs on the product sheet; the Tema roof bars have the instructions in the pack.
The Tema roof bar set weighs 5.2 kg, and the bars are 1,300 mm long.
With the box on the roof, the height of the car increases noticeably; check the total height before underground car parks or garages.
