Toyota RAV4 XA30 with Menabo Jackson Silver roof bars and Menabo Mania 460 roof box

On a third-generation Toyota RAV4 (XA30) with raised roof rails, we fitted a set of Menabo Jackson Silver roof bars and the Menabo Mania 460 White roof box. The fitting was done in the SuportBicicleta.ro showroom, which you can now find at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Toyota RAV4 third generation (XA30)

The Toyota RAV4 XA30 was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2005, and export production, including for Europe, ran from November 2005 to December 2012. It is a 5-door SUV, with no 3-door version, built on the Toyota New MC platform, and in Europe it was sold with the short wheelbase. According to Wikipedia, the model received a facelift in 2008 and another in 2010, both only in certain markets; the car in this fitting is from before the facelift.

On the RAV4 XA30 we have come across two types of roof: a normal roof, where the roof bars sit on feet with a clamp fixed on the edge of the door, and a roof with raised roof rails, like the car here, where the roof bars sit on the roof rails. So the first step is to know which roof your RAV4 has. We do not have the roof load limit of the RAV4 XA30 from an official source, so before loading the box it is worth reading the car manual.

What we fitted on this Toyota RAV4 XA30

We fitted the Menabo Jackson Silver roof bars on the roof rails of the RAV4, and on top of them we put the Menabo Mania 460 White roof box. The product page of the box confirms compatibility with Menabo Jackson bars, and also with many other Menabo, Thule, K39 or Yakima bars.

Mania 460 White is an ABS plastic box in glossy white, with a volume of 460 litres and a maximum load of 75 kg. It opens on one side, the right, and has a lock. It fixes to the bars quickly, with the 60 mm U-bolt or 20 mm T-bolt system, both included, and an 80 mm U-bolt fitting is optional, item 000065000000. Technical details and what to watch for

• Box volume: 460 litres; maximum load: 75 kg; empty box weight: 20.2 kg.
• Useful sum: a box loaded to the maximum puts 20.2 kg + 75 kg = 95.2 kg on the bars, plus the weight of the bars. The lower of the bar limit and the roof load allowed on the RAV4 XA30 is the one that counts.
• Fitting included: 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T-bolt systems; 80 mm U-bolt optional, item 000065000000.
• The box opens on one side, the right.
• On a RAV4 with raised roof rails, the bars and the box increase the height of the car; watch out for underground car parks and garages.
