The Volkswagen Golf V, model code 1K, was built as a hatchback from August 2003 to 2008 on the A5 (PQ35) platform. The hatchback body came in 3-door and 5-door versions. It should not be confused with the Golf Plus, a separate model 95 mm taller than the Golf V, for which separate roof bar kits exist.
The car in the fitting is a 3-door Golf V, with long doors and a bare roof. With no roof rails, the roof bars clamp directly onto the body, and in our photos you can see the metal clip of the Menabo foot sitting on the edge of the roof, at the door frame. Menabo makes separate fitting kits for the 3-door Golf V, the 5-door Golf V and the Golf Plus, so we choose the exact kit for your body type.
What we fitted on this Golf V
On the roof we fitted the Menabo Tema Steel roof bars for the Volkswagen Golf V (1K), 3-door, 2003-2008 models. Tema is a well-established range from the Italian maker Menabo, designed for cars without roof rails. The steel roof bars have an oval, aerodynamic profile, 1,300 mm long, 30 mm high and 48 mm wide, are covered in a protective plastic coating, and the metal parts are treated with a rubberised coating and anti-corrosion treatment.
The steel version has no T-track on top, so accessories attach with a standard U-bolt fitting, around the bar: a bike rack, roof box, ski rack or kayak rack. The pack contains 4 fitting kits for the 3-door Golf V, 4 feet, 2 steel bars, 4 lock cylinders with keys and an Allen key. The set weighs 5.8 kg and is TÜV and ISO certified.
