Volkswagen Golf VI (5K) 5-Door with Menabo Delta Black Roof Bars

We fitted a set of Menabo Delta Black roof bars on this 5-door Volkswagen Golf VI (5K), on which roof boxes, bike racks or ski racks can then be fitted. The fitting was done in our SuportBicicleta.ro showroom at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: Volkswagen Golf VI (Typ 5K)

The Golf VI is the sixth generation of the Volkswagen Golf, with the code Typ 5K, presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 2008 as a 2009 model. The hatchback was built between 2008 and 2013, alongside an estate (2009-2013) and a convertible (2011-2016), and in January 2013 it was followed by the Golf VII. Technically, the Golf VI is largely a revised version of the Golf V and uses the same Volkswagen Group A5 (PQ35) platform.

The fact that the two generations are technically similar does not mean they share the same roof bars: Menabo has a separate fitting kit for the Golf VI (5K) 5-door, 2008-2012. The roof of this Golf has no roof rails, so the Delta Black roof bars clamp directly onto the roof, in the door frame, with the fixing systems made for this body.

What we fitted on this Golf VI

We used the Menabo Delta Black roof bars for Volkswagen Golf VI (5K), 5-door, from the Delta range with an aerodynamic design. The roof bars are made of black aluminium, 1,370 mm long, 60 mm wide and 30 mm high, and the set has a maximum load of 50 kg and is TÜV and ISO tested.

The pack contains 4 fixing systems for the Golf VI, 4 feet, 2 bars, 4 locks with keys and an Allen key, with no other tools needed. On top of each bar there is a 20 mm T-track where accessories with a T-track fitting attach, while those with U-bolts attach around the outside of the bar. So the same set can carry, one at a time, a roof box, bike racks, ski and snowboard racks or a kayak carrier.

Useful details for this fitting

• Load formula: from the 50 kg maximum load of the roof bars you first deduct the weight of the accessory (box, rack), and only what remains can be load.
• The manufacturer states that the maximum load may differ by car, so also check the roof load in the Golf VI manual and observe the lower value.
• Before buying an accessory, check that its fitting covers the 60 x 30 mm profile of the roof bars or that it has a 20 mm T-track fitting.
• The instruction manual is included in the box.
