Dacia Duster II (HM) 2017-2021 with Menabo Marathon Dark 460 roof box on roof bars

A pre-facelift Dacia Duster II (HM) left our shop with a Menabo Marathon Dark 460 roof box on its roof. We did the fitting in our SuportBicicleta.ro shop at Drumul Lunca Corbului 2, Sector 3, Bucharest, Romania.

About the car: pre-facelift Dacia Duster II (HM)

The second-generation Dacia Duster, code HM, debuted in September 2017 in Frankfurt and was built for Europe until 2024. It uses the same B0 platform as the first Duster. The facelift was presented on 22 June 2021 and went on sale in September 2021, with new front and rear lights, so a pre-facelift Duster II like this one dates from 2017-2021.

The car in the photos has raised silver roof rails with the DUSTER lettering, fitted at the factory. The roof bars fix onto them, and the roof box fixes onto the roof bars. For the Duster II we have no verified official manual, so we do not give a figure for the roof load: check the value in your car's handbook before loading the box.

What we fitted on this Duster II

On the roof went the Menabo Marathon Dark 460 roof box, the matt black version of the Marathon range. It has 460 litres, is made of ABS plastic and has a lock. The long shape, almost 2 metres, suits an SUV like the Duster, where the box can be positioned so that the tailgate opens fully.

The box opens on the right-hand side. The pack includes the 60 mm U-bolt fitting and the 20 mm T fitting, and an 80 mm U-bolt fitting is available as an option. The compatibility list on the product page includes Menabo Brio, Delta, Sherman, Tiger, Omega and Tema roof bars, plus K39 bars, Thule Wingbar or Slidebar and Yakima.

Technical details and what to watch for

• Menabo Marathon Dark 460: 460 litres, ABS plastic, matt black, opens on the right, lock.
• Fittings included: 60 mm U-bolt and 20 mm T; the 80 mm U-bolt fitting is optional.
• Useful calculation: the weight of the box is deducted from the capacity of the roof bars, and what remains is what you can put in it; do not exceed the roof load in the Duster handbook either.
• Put heavy items low down, in the boot of the car, and use the box for bulky, light luggage.
• With the box fitted, the car grows taller by about 36 cm plus the height of the bars: watch out for garages and underground car parks.
• Menabo recommends a maximum speed of 130 km/h with the bars fitted on the car (see the guide to roof bar noise).
